Release

Forgive my "blogger's block!" We did the CD release gig weeks ago and since then it's been real tough to think of what to say. That gig was three years in the making and once it ended, the whole world changed. Kinda' like the guy at the end of the Princess Bride who kills the six-fingered man and then says, "I've been in the revenge business so long, I don't know what to do with the rest of my life."

I can say this, it felt right to be back at the Lakeside with the gang. We hadn't played there as a group since 2006. Since then, plenty changed. Eric joined Spanking Charlene. Dom moved to Poland, then moved back and became a father. Butch became a father too, and he started cool new band called The Buck Ups (gig at Lakeside this Wednesday). Brandy has the wildest news of all: she's pregnant with twin girls.

Everybody played great. Dom coaxed great licks out of his guitars and really stepped up on the background vocals. Butch made his guitar honk, tonk and wail and really belted out Pig Pen. Brandy, who played the gig sitting down, kept it cool on the bass and Eric, as ever, was solid as stone.

It was great to see so many old faces, and new ones too. The coolest thing about being in a band that hasn't hit big is that our friends become our fans, and our fans become our friends. Big thanks to all of you.

Two very dear friends came and joined us onstage. Charlene McPherson sang with us and then our personal guru, Keith Christopher, helped us rock through his song, "For Cryin' Out Loud."

This was the setlist:
Crybaby
I Thought You Were My Friend
Responsible
Thankless War
Don't Think I Can't Stop
Pig Pen
Only Gets Better
Feelin' Lucky Again
Proud Highway
27 Years
141
When She's Wasted
Back To Jesus
For Cryin' Out Loud

It was a good night. I can't speak for anyone else in the band, but I hope everyone had a good time. In the end the thing that was hard to say is this. To me the gig didn't feel like we released a CD. It felt like the CD released me.
